Pierre Auguste Renoir was born on 25th February 1841, in Limoges, France and started to paint early in life. As a young boy he helped out in his father's porcelain painting workshop, an experience that would influence him for the rest of his life. He initially enrolled at the local art school but soon left for Paris where he met fellow artists such as Monet, Sisley and Cezanne with whom he went on to form the Impressionist movement.
At the height of his career in the later years of his life, Renoir was unable to complete many paintings because of severe rheumatoid arthritis. This disease left him confined to a wheelchair and limited his movement, but did not prevent him from painting. The artworks he produced in those later years were considered some of his most classic works; including such beautiful pieces as “Impression: Sunrise” and “The Bathers.”
