Rembrandt created The Storm on the Sea of Galilee as part of a series of paintings depicting scenes from Jesus' life. This seascape depicts Jesus calming the waves of the sea, saving the lives of fourteen men aboard their ship. Of these fourteen men, it is said Rembrandt included himself in the boat, next to Jesus and his twelve disciples. On March 18th 1990, this masterpiece was stolen from Boston's Isabella Stewart Gardener Museum by thieves disguised as police officers. It was never recovered, and is considered the biggest art theft in history.
