Camille Pissarro
Camille Pissarro was a French Impressionist painter who was born in 1830 and died in 1903. He is considered to be one of the founders of Impressionism, and he is known for his bold use of color and his love of rural life.
He was born in Paris, France, but he spent much of his life living in or around the town of Auvers-sur-Oise. He grew up during a time when Paris was undergoing major changes thanks to industrialization, which had brought new wealth to some and poverty to others. This experience affected him deeply; you can see it in many of his paintings.
His early work focused on landscapes and still lifes, but later on in life he began painting portraits as well. His work is often characterized by vivid colors, loose brushwork and thick impasto paint application.
