Sebastiano Conca

Sebastiano Crocetti (January 1680), better known as Sebastiano Conca, was born in Gaeta, Italy. He was a successful Italian Baroque painter who completed more than thirty masterpieces during his lifetime. His work is known for being expressive and highly emotive. In 1706, along with his brother Giovanni, who acted as his assistant, he settled in Rome. He was patronized by Cardinal Pietro Ottoboni, who introduced him to Pope Clement XI. The pope commissioned him to paint frescoes in San Clemente and San Giovanni in Laterano and The Crowning of St. Cecilia in Santa Cecilia in Trastevere (1725).
