John Frederick Lewis
John Frederick Lewis (1750-1814) was a British painter and art collector. He is best known for his paintings of battles, landscapes, and portraits of soldiers.

Lewis was born in London on October 21, 1750. He began his career as an apprentice to the painter George Knapton (1708-1784). In 1771, he became a member of the Royal Academy.

As an artist, Lewis traveled throughout Europe and North America. He painted portraits of many famous people, including George Washington and Vice President John Adams. In addition to his painting career, Lewis amassed a large collection of art that he displayed at his home in London.
