Berthe Morisot

Berthe Morisot was a French painter who was born in 1841 and died in 1895. She was the daughter of Eugene Manet, brother of Edouard Manet. She married Eugene's friend, Frédéric Bazille, who died during the Franco-Prussian War. He left her with three children to raise.

Morisot is known for her paintings of women in their homes or gardens, dressed in simple clothing with their hair unkempt. She was a member of the Impressionists and exhibited with them in 1874 and 1877. Her work is held by many museums around the world, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.
